The short answer: buy 24K only as bars or coins, purely to hold value. For anything you intend to wear, 22K is the Bangladeshi standard for bridal and traditional pieces, 21K is the practical daily-wear choice, and 18K suits light or stone-set designs. Purity 916 (916) stamped on a piece is what makes it 22 karat hallmark gold.
Buying 24 karat gold in Bangladesh — what to know
Ask for “24 karat” in a Bangladeshi jewellery shop and you will almost always be shown 22 karat instead. That is not a trick: at 99.9% purity gold is soft enough to bend between your fingers, so it cannot hold a stone, survive a clasp, or keep its shape on a finger worn every day. Every jewellery-making tradition adds a small amount of harder metal for exactly this reason, and in Bangladesh that standard settled at 22 karat — 91.6% gold, stamped 916.
So where does 24 karat actually live? In bars and coins. If your goal is to store value rather than wear it, bullion is the efficient way to do it: you pay for metal and almost nothing else. The trade-off is that a bar gives you nothing to wear at a wedding, and in Bangladesh gold is as much a social asset as a financial one.
One more number worth understanding: jewellery costs more than the metal rate because of the making charge — the craftsmanship — plus 5% government VAT. When you sell ornaments back, that making charge is not returned, and the customary BAJUS deduction of about 17% applies. Bullion carries a much smaller spread. Neither is wrong; they answer different questions, and a jeweller who explains that honestly is worth more to you than one who simply agrees with whatever you ask for.

Why doesn't BAJUS publish a 24K rate?
Because 24 karat gold is not sold as jewellery in Bangladesh. At 99.9% purity it is too soft to hold a setting or survive daily wear, so it exists here as bars and coins rather than ornaments. BAJUS therefore announces rates for the karats people actually buy: 22K, 21K, 18K and traditional (সনাতন). The 24K figure on this page is calculated from the announced 22K hallmark rate on the same local basis.

International sites quote the global bullion spot price converted into taka. Bangladeshi rates are set locally by BAJUS and include import duty, local demand and market premium, so they typically sit above the raw international conversion. This page uses the local BAJUS basis, because that is what you would actually transact at in Bangladesh.
