What this history does and doesn’t tell you
Gold in Bangladesh is priced off three things: the international bullion market, the taka’s exchange rate against the dollar, and local demand and import costs. That is why the local rate can rise in a week when the world price barely moved — a weaker taka alone will do it. BAJUS weighs these together and announces the rate the whole trade then follows.
Read the table above as context, not as a forecast. It tells you honestly whether today’s rate is high or low against recent years, and how the long trend has run. It cannot tell you what next month holds, and any jeweller who says otherwise is guessing. What we can tell you from 25 years behind the counter is that most families here are not trading gold — they are buying for a wedding, or putting savings into something they can also wear, and over those timeframes the direction of this table has mattered more than the timing of any single week.
One practical note when comparing years: these are metal rates only. A finished ornament also carries a making charge for the craftsmanship plus 5% VAT, and when you sell old gold back the customary BAJUS deduction of about 17% applies. So the gap between what a piece cost you and what it returns is wider than the rate change alone — which is exactly why we print weight, karat and the day’s rate on every cash memo.

Is this a good time to buy gold?
Nobody can answer that honestly, and you should be wary of any jeweller who claims to. What the table above does give you is context: you can see whether today's rate is high or low relative to the last few years, and how much it has moved over 1, 5, 10 and 15 years. Most families in Bangladesh buy gold for a wedding or as long-term savings rather than for timing the market — and over those horizons the historical direction has been upward, though that is history, not a promise.
